'What if earth was just a prototype | Dutch Design Week 2015

'What if ...' is the question with which creativity and innovation begins. Every year in October the biggest design event in Northern Europe 'Dutch Design Week' takes place in Eindhoven. This years theme was 'What if'. All over the design area you could find posters with all kind of questions starting: 'What if...'.
During 9 days you can admire the work and ideas at more than 80 locations around the city around the theme. What's different about this design event is that it concentrates on the designs of the future leaving so much to see by talented young designers.

Those who follow me on instagram could follow my tracks on the event. This year I made the choice to book a night in a hotel in the center of Eindhoven, which was perfect because this event is very addictive and gives so much inspiration, fun and good vibes.

We (Jörgen and myself) went early in the morning and started our day on the DDW at the Strijp S area to get my press pass and a ticket for Jörgen.

After checking into our hotel and admiring our room on the 9th floor, we started at Kazerne, an amazing industrial place in the center. One of my personal highlights was the exposition of Lidewij Edelkoort  'Open Ended': it showed a selection of her personal art and design collection, an overview of Dutch and international independent design from 1995 to 2015. Lidewij Edelkoort is one of the world’s most famous trend forecasters. Edelkoort creates trend books two or more years ahead that are tools used by strategists, designers and marketeers at international brands.

Another tip if you might want to go one time to the event, is the Design Academy Graduation ShowHow wonderful are the ideas and concepts that you see here and the great thing is: these talented young designers can tell you all about their design and their concept. Of course we admired the beautiful concepts the students made. I am very pleased that we've been here again.

At Piet Hein Eek we enjoyed a nice break in the restaurant and admired the designers expositions.
We ended the day with a quick visit to the Strijp S area that afternoon.

After walking back and passing through the surprising community garden called Garden Mania where you can grow your own vegetables, flowers and plants surrounded by art, music and literature. Lectures and workshops together or just good food, and that between the old factory buildings in the creative heart of Eindhoven Strijp S, I can tell you that we were glad that we could rest our legs in our hotel.

On Sunday we returned to Strijp S. It's an area with all former amazing impressive industrial Philips buildings. This place is awesome as my daughter would say. A must see when you get there is restaurant Radio Royaal. Such a great industrial vibe.

Check out the making of video about these stunning shylights by Studio Drift we saw. You can still admire them at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam right know.

In the afternoon we drove quickly by car to Area C, where again we were overwhelmed with inspiring design and designers workspaces.

After these days, you really do not want to go home. No, this tastes like more. We would certainly enjoy ourselves for a few more days. Just the atmosphere alone is top. I'm already looking forward to next year!
